iPhone won't restore when plugged into iTunes

The phone all the sudden stopped working so I decided to restore it. When I hold the power and home button the display is blank but iTunes says its in recovery mode. I downloaded the ipsw and started the restore, I saw an apple logo and the loading bar under it but even after leaving it all night the bar made 0% progress. can anyone help??

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If you saw a blank screen after pressing those buttons but iTunes said you were in recovery mode, you successfully entered DFU mode.

It sounds like iTunes is giving you grief so, try using 3utools to flash instead of iTunes.

Thanks, I used the tool but it said "invalid serial number" do you know how to fix that?

Try

a) Taking out the SIM Card

b) use DFU mode (I assume you are already doing so)

c) If this is PC, check device manager to see if there are any errors around your iPhone listed.

If these don't resolve your issue, you may have hardware damage around the charge/data port.
