The case is bowed

I can't completly close my Mac. The top part of the case is fine but the bottom part is "bowed" up. I haven't taken it apart yet. The Mac runs but is very slow and some of the keys don't seem to work. I didn't use it for 6 months because I use an iMac at work. Before I stopped using it the battery would only had a usage time of about 2 hours.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Sounds like your battery has bulged possibly due to over discharge from being in storage for so long.

You should follow this procedure to remove and install a new battery 2012 macbook air battery replacement

Make sure you get the right year and model though when ordering a new battery!

Regardless of you want to put a new battery in, you should remove the old battery if it is bulged as it could be a safety hazard and get worse just sitting around in the macbook.

Good luck and let us know if this was the solution :)
