Slow doing what exactly?

How many items are on your desktop?

How many process are running in the background?(Launching an IM program at startup, even if you're not using it would slow your machine.)

How full is your HD? (You need 20% free for VRAM and temp files.)

What OS are you running? (running an OS for which your box just, or barely, meets the requirements would be slower than dropping back one Rev.)

N.

This model has a 1 GB maximum RAM,  2 - 512MB SDRAM SODIMMs.

Outside of installing a larger, faster drive, try going under the View at the top of the screen to “show view options”. Make sure the “size” is turned off. This will stop the CPU from calculating the size of each folder every time a directory is opened. This can make a major difference in speed.

You're not going to get much speed with that processor, and 1GB RAM still is very slow, looks like you're stuck with that for now.

If you have a G4-Based Powerbook, There are ways to actually overclock the processor by manipulating a block of resistors on the motherboard, but this is risky, and different for each model of computer, but you might want to look into it, what model powerbook do you have?
