iPhone 6 home button became unresponsive randomly.

A couple of days ago , my iPhone 6 was working perfectly. Two days ago , I discovered that the Home Button was not as responsive as it used to be. One click - nothing. One click - it works. Today however, the home button doesn’t work at all. The Touch ID still works perfectly and Siri sometimes works if I hold the home button down long enough. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thank you!

1. Launch any app such as Stocks, Weather, etc. that comes pre-installed with your iPhone or iPad.

2. Press and hold the Power (Sleep/Wake) button until you “slide to power off” slider appears on the screen

3. Release the power button and now press and hold the Home button until the “slide to power off” slider goes away.

That’s it. You will notice that it kills the app. You will also notice that the home button is a lot more responsive.

This is quite an old trick to recalibrate the Home button if it becomes unresponsive. It is not clear why this works, and what’s the significance of using a stock app. But it seems to work, and certainly made the Home button on my iPhone 6 Plus more responsive. I haven’t been forced to click multiple times after trying this trick.

This should also work with iPad and iPod touch Home buttons. If your Home button doesn’t work even after trying this trick, then it is quite possible that it is a hardware issue, and you need to get it repaired. Alternatively, you can also use Assistive Touch (Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch), which enables an on-screen Home button.

I’ve tried this and I’m still having the same problem, do you know what kind of hardware issue it might be?

If there was no fall or drop, it just happened out of the blue...you could try powering down, open and disconnect battery, then carefully try to reseat it to see if that makes a difference. Or if you have another Home button ribbon cable (On the back-plate), you could try changing it. Also looking close at the connectors to see if there is any other signs of burns or damage.

Just be gentle and careful as to not cause any more issues.

You could even try swapping the home button as a temp fix (No Touch ID) to see if it is a button issue or cable issue or board issue....

This will be my first time opening an iPhone and trying to fix it, do you have any tips or advice?

by

Honestly, not that I can think of. Other than backing up on Itunes first and then restoring/resetting it if you think it's a software issue. But if you have never opened an iphone and are uncomfortable with it, I would not recommend it as it could cause something unrelated to happen. I would suggest maybe taking it in for repair or troubleshooting by an experienced repair shop.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
