Why is the fan always running?

I have a 20" iMac (EMC 2118) that has a fan constantly spinning at full speed, it seems. The moment you boot it up, the fan sounds like an airplane about to take off. My other iMac (24") is quiet as can be, how can I get the 20" fan working properly?

Most likely on of the thermal sensors came off or gone bad or its cable became detached. You will have to open the machine and give it a thorough inspection. You'll find the right guide here.
