I dropped my phone off to get looked at and it isn't working now.

I dropped my phone off at an apple store to get it looked at to make sure nothing was wrong with it and I just got it back and it isn't turning on so I obviously I thought it was dead so I plugged it in and it still won't turn on. (Yes I know I need a new phone if it is having this many problems.)

I dropped it in water 2 months ago and it is starting to overheat, battery expanding, turns itself off, and dying even when charging.

by

did the apple store say they repaired it

@cullin Apple will not repair your phone since it was water damaged. You can try and have an independent repairer like @refectio take a look at it. You need to let us know what Apple charged you for. Was it for a repair (doubtful) or an evaluation? I doubt you'll get a refund but you can always try.

This "I dropped it in water 2 months ago and it is starting to overheat, battery expanding, turns itself off, and dying even when charging." is a good sign of what is really going on with your phone. Most likely your battery has finally failed. You did not tell us if you ever took care of the water damage or if you left it untreated. If untreated then this would be about the time I'd expect corrosion to set in and your battery to fail. As much as I despise Apple and other companies that treat consumers like they do, this may actually not be their issue. Open it up, clean it, replace the battery and then re-evaluate.

Yeah, I took it to an independent repair store and they said there is a short circuit and corrosion, but will the phone completely die if the corrosion isn't fixed?

by

@cullin yes it will and may already have done so.

by

How long does it take to completely die from corrosion?

by

Days, weeks, month it all dpends. If may be corrosion it may be solides left by the liquid. There is no exact timeline as for when it shortens out component or corrodes pathways and solder pads. Hence the importance of cleaning asap instead of waiting.

by

Do you know how much it usually costs to clean it?

Take it back to the Apple store, you paid them to repair it and it got worse. They likely shouldn't charge you again.

Worst case scenario get a refund.

Is there a certain amount of days I have to go back and get my refund? Like some sort of warranty or something?

by

@kcrney. Apple will not repair this since it is water damaged. You will always pay for having them look at it and we do not know what the charge was for or high the charge was.
