Top and Bottom of screen has gray bars and has yellow tinge.

Been going on for a few months, the iPod touch screen has some gray lines, but not perfectly straight lines across the whole screen, the grey blob/lines are sort of curved (not that noticeable on image for bottom bit, can slightly see it one the top).

The gray lines/blobs have also moved and shifted over that time. Lines are unaffected by orientation or what is displayed. When the iPod is locked and screen off, the blob is still visible, just. There is also a visibly noticeable yellow tinge on the screen as well around the top half of the screen.

I have replaced the iPod but it holds some significance to me so I'd like to repair it if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Graham,

From looking at the picture I think the lcd is on the way out. Follow the link to replace your lcd and it should be good as new:

iPod Touch 1st Generation Display Replacement

Also I use several guitar picks to enlarge and hold open the spots created with the opening tools. You can push them straight down to release the clips and they stay in pretty good while you open the rest. Good luck and please let us know how you do.
