My IPOD Video 30gb didn't have any sound from the left ear. I purchased a replacement Headphone Jack and Hold Switch and I still have the problem. I have tried different head phones but still have the same problem.
It works fine if I put it in a dock or in my car. Any ideas?

Either a faulty jack that you bought, or installed incorrectly-- make sure all the connections are tight.

I did buy it from ifixit and will disassemble and make sure all connections are tight. Thank You

Did you buy the jack from ifixit? Wherever you got it should swap it out for you. This isn't the greatest fix but I recently had this same problem with a cheap connector purchased by a customer. I used a scratch awl which had a fine point and pushed the bottom gold connection in to make better contact. This worked and the customer was happy although I wasn't because it seemed like the wrong way to fix it. His idea not mine! Anyway I always buy OEM parts and never had this issue until this customer brought one in with their own parts.

I should go on to say that I compared the Apple ear bud plug to a couple others and the Apple plug is slightly longer and it worked fine. The issue was my customer was using skull candy which was a shorter one. That said they worked after the Rube Goldberg fix and he was happy! I started using 3 different sets of ear devices to test before giving back to my customers.

dan, you had the problem before you replaced the jack with a new one. Now you still have the same problem. May be not your head phone jack but the connector. Make sure that it is placed and seated right
