Everything on phone working, other than the screen staying black

Hey all,

So my brothers 5C started periodically turning black, while staying on, so to be safe i backed it up while it was still working. Today during school the phone went black and never came back. Sometimes if i hold the power button it lights up for a brief moment and i can see the lock screen, but not for long. I was able to boot the phone into recovery mode blind and restore it with itunes. It successfully restored, but the screen never changed from black. I started hitting the power button, and the setup narrator started talking, all but confirming to me that the phone is still functional but just wont display anything.

So, do i any other options before i buy a new screen? Will the new screen even work? Thanks in advance
