Why won't my HP Desktop m9000t power up after hard drive replacement?

I tried to upgrade my hard drive, something I have done many times before. After installing the new drive, the computer will not power up. The only sign of life is the green light on the power supply when the machine is plugged in.

I tried swapping the original drive back in, but the computer is still dead.

I don't even know where to start to diagnose the problem.

Try reconnecting the the cable that goes to the start button, usually the keyboard to logic board cable.

What I would suggest is that you disconnect all the drives, remove the memory and start your computer up.You should here a POST beeping (caused by the no memory fault) if you hear the beeping you know that your CPU is working. Clear the CMOS by removing the RTC (BIOS) battery for more than five minutes to clear all custom BIOS settings (including time & date) and return all settings to default. After that you plug your old working hrad drive back in. This way you know that A:) your drive is worknig and B:) it should now start back up but may give your some error after the POST due to same changes in the CMOS. You can always correct those after. Once your computer gets to that point you can shut down and reconnect all your drives. Now would be the time thatyou can check again that new drive. Just make sure that the jumper settings are set properly on the drive, make sure all cables are connected the right way, and make sure that you have a hard drive that is compatible with your sytem. Let us know what worked and/or did not so that we can continue to find a solution for your computer. Good Luck
