I would review this Apple T/N: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters to make sure your charger is in good shape!

As for the charger its self... Review these many cheap units are fake units!:

- Counterfeit Macbook charger teardown: convincing outside but dangerous inside

- Lacking safety features, cheap MacBook chargers create big sparks

Many of these cheap clones being sold can in fact kill your system! Make sure you are using a real Apple MagSafe power adapter. Its getting harder to tell the real ones from the fakes! Apple has stopped being aggressive on stopping the sale of these units as they are migrating to USB-C chargers so their more of them out there now.

I strongly recommend you get a real unit from a real Apple Store or directly online from Apple to be sure. Yes, they are more expensive! But they are cheaper in the long term if you then need to get your logic board replace or repaired from their damage.

Here's Apple T/N on what you'll need: Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook

Replacing the MagSafe 2 port:

Review this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Logic Board Replacement Jump down to Step38 after lifting the display cable you’ll see the DC-In board just below. Here is the correct part: MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2015) MagSafe 2 DC-In Board.

This series has the charging port as part of this smaller board unlike the older models which you can see here: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012 MagSafe DC-In Board Replacement. And I agree the older design was better & cheaper!

I just want to say how disappointed I am with Apple. I have had 3 MacBook Pros that have had the same problem. The prongs is the plug part that attaches to the computer goes bad and will no longer charger. Every time I turned it into warranty they told me the plug-in wasn't covered and I had to buy a $80 charger. They even totally replaced the computer once. They said it was the electrical current in my house. Through searching the internet I found something surprising. A person had posted this in the apple community but apple deleted it. You can find this problem all over the internet with MacBook pros. All you have to do is clean the plug-in and the plug-in port with alcohol and push on each of the prongs until they all pop up. The problem is that the prongs gets stuck down. I have probably bought 5 chargers due to this problem. Please pass this information on as apple doesn't want anyone to know it.

@jrhmds79 - What are you talking about??

The MagSafe charger does not have prongs that goes into the computer. Are you talking about the AC plug part?

How about telling us your exact model and take some pics so we can see what your issue is. We might even be able to help you! Adding images to an existing answer
