Intermittent audio in one channel?

Hello, does anyone know what the cause of the intermittent audio from the headphone jack is?

The fix is pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of this problem? I have seen a few iPods with this fault. If I fix mine will the fault come back over time?

aksolanki, when you say the fix is "pretty straight forward" does that mean you already fixed it or know what is broken that needs to be fixed? I am confused by that. The main audio issues besides the head phone jack of course iPod 5th Generation (Video) Headphone Jack & Hold Switch Replacement available at iPod Video 60/80 GB Headphone Jack & Hold Switch is a loose IC on the logic board. You will probably know that you can fault find this by squeezing your ipod on the right bottom beside the click wheel if that resolves your audio issues, your IC is loose. Your fault can always come back if the repair is not done properly. Good Luck

Hi oldturkey03,

Thanks for your input. I didn't know there was an issue of a loose IC with some 5th Gen iPods, which is why I posted the question. The headphone/hold switch replacement seemed pretty easy to me, but I do have experience opening tech and fixing it.

I have an iPod 5th Gen with a faulty headphone jack which I recently purchased from eBay, for the sole purpose of upgrading the HD to 240Gb, and by passing the internal Op amps and going straight from the Wolfson DAC to the line out on the dock connector. So I'm hoping that whatever the cause for the intermittent audio from the headphone jack won't affect me because I will be using line out to a portable amp.

Many thanks, Anil.

Hi Anil here is a good forum I came across a couple of years ago and it does explain a lot more about this issue. http://forums.macnn.com/103/ipod-iphone-... Check on a posting by warnergt it is kind of crude but it does seem to work.
