Recently had to buy a screen replacement kit for my old iPhone 5s since the old screen got badly cracked. The new screen does not show anything after being connected, thus the old one does.

Hi,
If your old screen still works, this would suggest your new screen is faulty.
You will have to try another screen. :-)

is there any visible damage to the cable? Try cleaning the contacts and reinstalling. sometimes a soft reset (home + power) or a battery disconnect will help.

No, there is no visible damage, neither could there be, since the screen is brand new. I did clean the contacts around 4 times now, didn't help. Soft reset nor battery disconnect did not help.
