Remove battery and plug to usb/ac. Will it work?

Remove battery and plug to usb/ac. Will it work?

I have an ipod that won't turn on, so i thought maybe the battery was faulty. I ripped it off and plugged the ipod to ac/usb but still no power. Should i assume a faulty logic board or could it still be just the battery faulty and it allways needs a battery to boot?

Any thoughts?

BOL the equipment may not need the battery to boot off but it may need it for feedback. The processor may be looking for a battery to display battery charge etc., so if it can't find it it may hang up. This is a general statement, not just an iPod thing.

The way I look at it is that nothing will boot if it hasn't got any power supply. I tried to start other ipods without a battery but never really had any luck with that. May just have been so particular iPods. I would start by replacing the Battery and troubleshoot from there. At least then you know that you have a working part and if gives you a better start. Make sure that your connections and connectors are all in good working order and pay attention to corrosion as well as broken tracks. A lot cheaper then to just go and replace everything. Of course your logic board may still need to be replaced, but at least check it out. Good Luck and let us know if it helped.

Replaced battery and nothing happened. I guess it's faulty logic board.

and you checked all your connections, connectors and cables? Does anything happen if you plug it into a wall charger or your computer

Have you double checked your connection of the Battery, checked for corrosion or debris on the connection? It is not shorting out anywhere, touching anything else? I always double (triple) check my work before I replace the logic board. Just to make sure it is all installed the way it is supposed to.

The battery is properly installed but nothing happens on the ipod when i try to turn it on. I have another 5th gen that was faulty (not holding charge) and when i removed the battery he would boot connected to USB/AC ! So no battery needed for boot :)

excellent, that would allow you to measure the output with a multimeter and you could find out if it works....great job.
