Yellow light from power adapter and buzzing noise.

Hi,

Just recently my iBook power adapter started showing a yellow light instead of the orange-ish color (that shows when the battery is charging normally) and was buzzing when it was that yellow color. It also shows the battery in the status bar, that it is plugged in but still loses power. The status it shows kinda makes it look like its at full charge. It charges fine when set in a certain way but if it moves just slightly it starts buzzing, the power adapter turns yellow, and losing power. Battery does charge and is fairly new. Any of ideas what might be my problem? Please help, this is my school computer and its such a hassle having to make sure its charging correctly and having to prop it perfectly takes forever.

Thank you,

Andrew D.

Sounds like a short. Examine the DC IN port and see if it's come loose. Look at the tip of the AC adapter to see if it's broken off. Now plug it in and see if the outer securing metal ring is tight or has spread out. Let us know the results and we can proceed with a fix.

a similar problem started on my iBook about a week ago. initially, the charger light ring would cycle between orange and yellow while the buzzing occurred. at the time, the AC was registered but the battery would not charge.

today, the AC no longer registered. after pulling the case apart and looking more closely at the DC-in board, it appeared that one of the three power contacts just burned itself out.

since i had replaced both the AC charger and the battery less than 2 years ago, i was fairly certain the DC-in board was the culprit.

i bought a used DC-in board from eBay, and after fixing an unrelated problem on *that* board, my iBook is charging again.
