Why is my device stuck on searching even without sim card

I have an iPhone 5s that worked perfectly fine (sim card and everything) until i reset it. Unfortunately afterwards the top left carrier text just said "searching..." eternally. I thought it was a problem with my sim card, but it does this indefinitely even without a sim card in the phone. I can still use the phone for the most part, but i cant use it as a phone. The phone also no longer has an imei number, but i have a screenshot of the old one.

The phone also freezes for a few seconds every 10 seconds. I looked at the real time system log and basically it tries to launch CommCenter every 10 seconds and it crashes. Im assuming this has something to do with the cellular signal.

I've tried disconnecting the battery, resetting the date, freezing the phone, and force rebooting. Ive looked around for a solution. Restoring the phone doesn't do anything as far as i know. Several people say that the baseband needs to be replaced, but i have no idea how to do that. I really dont want to go through apple

Baseband chip issue. At this point I would give up on the phone because this kind of repair is very hard, and expensive to do.
