Replaced the HD to a SSHD but its not working, can't install the OS X.

I have done everything that i learned here on how to switch the HD on my iMac to a SSHD bought here at ifixit. In fact it's easy. The problem is the iMac don't recognizes de SSHD and i cannot install the MAC OS X. Then i get back to the HD and there it is, works well. Do i need to format the SSHD outside of the iMac to make it work?

Thank you

Update (09/26/2017)

I usually format the drive and install a system externally.

If I don't do that, then I drop the drive in and boot from an external drive, then format it and install the system from my external. I've done dozens of these drives in these earlier iMac with excellent results.

Thank you for the answer.

I've downloaded a copy os Sierra and created a bootable USB drive, boot the iMac to install the Sierra on the new drive but the SSHD doesn't display on the drives list. Do you think will make a difference if i do this externally?

SO you're booted from an external USB drive running Sierra with a Sierra install on it. Right now the new drive is in the machine. But Disk Utilities on the external drive will not see it to format it?

You did format before trying to install a system, right? Format GUID then Mac OS X extended if not.

First question: YES

Second question: YES, i am trying to do is format the new drive through the disk utility on the external drive but doesn't even show on the drives list. I will try to do this externally, but i will have to find an external reader cause i don't have it here. Thank you Mayer

If Disk Utility will not even see the drive internally you possibly have a bad drive. Was everything working OK before you started this drive change?

Finally Mayer, i opened up an old PC that i have here, installed the SSHD and formatted, putted back on my iMac and the drive showed up on the disk utility. Thanks for your attention.
