Speaker enclosure has cracked, distorted sound.

A friend of mine dropped his iPhone 4 and shattered the screen. Also, the ringer speaker has a cracked, distorted sound. Thanks to ifixit, I successfully replaced the screen and speaker enclosure, but the speaker quality has no improvement. The speaker has now been replaced twice and still isn't fixed. Any idea what else could be causing the problem?

One of my friends has an iPhone 4 and was experiencing issues with sound quality coming from the speaker. One day it was terrible and a couple days later it was fine.

just happened today to me on a 3gs. it turned out that the case was blocking the airflow of the sound causing the sound to be distorted. try cleaning off the speaker screen on the case, also remove anything that could be blocking the speaker port (in my case it was a little bit of rubber that had been and was covering up the speaker port. hope this helps
