Gear iconx replacement battery

I have a brand new set of Samsung Gear IconX Headphones and the left earbud has a battery life somewhere around 15-30 minutes. The right runs as per the specs. I don't have a proof of purchase, so even though they are new and still within the warranty period, I can't send them to Samsung for repair or replacement and Samsung does not sell the battery.

I've been looking, unsuccessfully, for a replacement battery, so I could try to swap out the battery myself.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement battery?

Has anyone successfully done the repair?

Thanks.

Update (09/12/2017)

So, I went ahead and opened up the left earbud and it actually was surprisingly easy. The battery in it is a "Varta Cp1254 A2". It is a 50mah version, but Varta makes an "A3" version that is identical except that it is 60mah, so that seems like a logical upgrade. The only problem so far is that these batteries are pretty difficult to find without ordering in bulk from China. While I would definitely like to find 4 A3's, I have no use or budget for a minimum order of 1000. If anyone has any or can hook me up with a vendor, I'd definitely be interested in buying at least 4 of them. Thanks.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

How did you open the earbud

Anybody figure out how to open the earbuds yet? I have the same issue, only with the right earbud instead of the left.

Hi mate! Could you please tell me how to open it? Do you used special tool or something? I need to replace the battery of mine. I found a supplier which is like £7.00+ each if buying 5pcs. Thanks!

hi rommel,

do you have any spare to sell? i need 2pcs since it hard to get in my country

There is no official step-by-step on opening the earbud to replace the battery. Nevertheless, I found the following CN website providing detailed disassemble steps for IconX SM-R150

Hope it helps

Hey guys I still had trouble getting an answer on how to open the earbuds. Here's the link I found. My issues was not the batter. It was the left earbud. Sounded clear one minute then aside from the low volume at other times it sounded like it had water in it or something. Anyway I open my up but wasnt able to get to the speaker because of how well it was on. But opening it up and reset it seemed to have fixed my issue for now.

Has anyone done a teardown of the Gear IconX charger cradle (EB-PR150)? There is a charging circuit inside, because it receives a charge at 0.5 A through the MicroUSB port at the rear, then recharges one or both earbuds placed inside at just 50 mA. The bud socket hold a tiny position switch that is pressed with the bud inside and the cover closed. And there are twp external indicators for the charge level and status of each bud. The internal battery capacity can recharge each or both buds several times (I counted four).

It may not be so "interesting" as a earbud teardown but I believe it may give information on how the IconX charges.

The case battery holds 315 mAh, and each earbud holds 47 mAh. So the case can charge the buds about four times (315/ [47 x 2])
