How can I replace the charging port?

the charging port on my surface book has a bent/broken pin, microsoft only offers to replace the entire unit for $900, obviously thats insane, is it possible to get my hands on a replacement and install it myself?

Hi!

To replace the charging port, you will need to replace the entire motherboard in the dock. The one that has the GPU on it. You can have a look at this guide, starting with step 23 to see for yourself. The fact that you have to replace the entire motherboard of inside the keyboard is the reason why they charge you that much i believe.

  1. You could first try picking the pins out a bit with needle.
  2. Look for the charging port part on websites like Taobao / Aliexpress or eBay for around US$20 - 30, I saw one on Taobao but i solved the problem by 1st solution

Presumably you've come up with a solution by now, but in case your Surface Book is sitting in a corner somewhere, or someone else arrives here because of a similar issue... I read that you could switch out the keyboard with another one (this is NOT a part that Microsoft sells). Perhaps check ebay for a used option to replace it with?

Here's the article that made me think of this:
