Is there a way to get a new home button, but also retain Touch ID?

Hi,

I've noticed my TouchID has stopped working ever since I gave my phone to a 'technician'. My guess is he took the original parts and gave me fake ones. Because of that, it just says unable to make Touch ID when I go to make a fingerprint. My question is, can I just get a new one from iFixIt, and follow the guides, and have Touch ID back? And if not, what can I do?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, you need the original Home Button as it is "paired" with the logic board.

As for the problem subsequent to a repair, there is no advantage for a tech to take yours as it is useless on it's own. It's more likely that something was accidentally damaged during the repair. I would go back to the shop and have them take a look.

If you want to do something yourself, it is possible that the Home Button flex extension that runs underneath the LCD Shield Plate was damaged. You can check out this guide to see if you want to take a look yourself. Even the tiniest tear of the flex or bent pin on the connectors can cause Touch ID to fail. I would also carefully inspect the Home Button itself to see if there is any damage.

And if not, what can I do?

Apple is the only place in the world where you get to repair the home button AND keep Touch ID.
