MacBook Air 13" fan won't stop running?

The fans in my laptop are constantly running even when I have no applications open. As soon as I turn the computer on, they are on full blast and don't stop no matter what I do. It's so loud and distracts me from everything I do, can someone please tell me how to stop it from being on 24/7?

Are there any other issues you are having with your mac book before you try the following

Try and reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

If the battery is nonremovable:

  • Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  • After your Mac shuts down, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release all keys.
  • Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

If has removable battery:

  • Shut down your Mac.
  • Remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  • Reinstall the battery.
  • Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

Hi everyone,

I followed the suggestions above and went ahead and installed TGPro. I think that this app has a much smarter way of controlling the fans. At least when the app is actually managing the fans, in my case the fan speed won’t max out whereas when the System is in control, fans are working at full speed. I have a MBA mid-2011. I know this article is old but I would like to share my log files if anybody here can give them a look.

thanks

I am having the same problem. I downloaded ETRECheck.

Following is the report generated EtreCheck Report

I appreciate any guidance you can provide as to how I can remedy this problem.

Sadly the original poster didn't follow up with us so we just don't know what happened.

I original advice still holds! You need to diagnose the issue using this tool TG Pro! It will allow you to see what your sensors and fans are doing much better than what EtreCheck can as its focus is more into software causes.

I also recommend using the onboard diagnostics. Restart your system and press the D key. Did your system pop an error code?
