Why does my machine stop mid-cycle?

I can hold onto the knob or jam something behind it and it will continue but it has progressively gotten worse. It stops about the same place everytime, toward end of wash going into rinse and now sometimes during rinse. From what I've already read and the fact that this is the only malfunction, I think it may be the timer. Is that right and can I, a handy layman, fix it myself?

Answer this question I have this problem too

It sounds like a plumbing problem rather than a machine fault.

Turn the machine off.

Turn the cold &/or hot water supply taps off

Disconnect hot & cold water supply hoses connected to the back of the machine

Put the NOW open ends of the hoses into a bucket and turn each one on slowly

This is checking that both are supplying water to the machine as required

If either hose does not run then it is blocked or the supply to it is turned off elsewhere
