Replace cord 110908-004-000 for Oster Rice cooker? (no longer made)

Hi - bought this used without cord. It's in great shape, but customer service says the no longer make this cord.

Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated. I haven't seen any cords with this shape in my searches. Pity that a functioning appliance will just be toxic junk cuz of cord.

Cheers,

Linda

Many thanks Alton,

I attached a photo, but not sure where it shows up.

Opening is 25mm wide x 14mm high.

I can take screws off and show what's inside as well (if my photos are appearing here somewhere..)

Best,

ll

Yes I see your picture and they have a replacement on ebay.

I put in a picture of the cord and the ebay link.

This would bring your cooker up to original CSA /UL code.

Philscbx has an idea to just replace the whole thing with an extension cord, cut the female end off connect it to the wires and you are back in business. The hole left from removing the plug poses the problem of not making the new cord secure in the large hole. It needs a proper hole a proper strain relief to hold your extension. Most extension cords are not sized for a heating device nor rated for a heating appliance. Inside the unit is fiber coated heat resistant stranded as well. Your attachment crimps have to be chrome or they will just burn off. You have to determine which conductor is the hot and which is the neutral then find a place for the new cord bond/ground. Your cooker is meant to have a heat resistant insulated cord it has only two prongs. Hooking the hot to the neutral and then you touch the unit, you could electrocute your self. It was CSA/UL approved for one type of cord so messing with this unless you are qualified is serious.

If the extension cord rout is for you. Take it to a repair shop as they should have the correct cord, connecters and plug. I am an industrial electrician and worry about you doing it.

Ok well a repair shop may do this for $50 to $100, not sure if it would be done correct but probably ok. You see this cord on ebay plus shipping is $25 and I will not worry about you.

Hello Linda:

I have done this as well, like the appliance. Being an electrician I can just make up a cord and hook to the inside and away we go.

If you describe the cord plus leave a picture of the receptacle, I can probably get you going.

Don't put it off post one soonest.

It looks like a computer power cable, just without earth connection,

perhaps borrow one to test if it fits?

This is in no way a computer power cable, has only 2 prongs. That is why I asked for a picture.

Hi Alton, somehow it look like a IEC 13 / C13 with the absence of grounding

You bet it did and how lucky would she be. It is like an old clothes Iron plug from the 60's

No word though if she ordered one from Ebay. Like I said I could wire it direct being an electrician and getting the correct wire, hard to do it over the internet.

Thanks all so much for info. Seems over my head as far as self repair, and more money than I want to spend to get fixed :( Will keep checking at Goodwill- maybe cord will show up

As ALton mention:

Also If needed, upgrade plug

to flat style so cord fits the angle needed to keep cord stealth,

or just better space managed.

Chop to length as needed,

then attach new plug to extension cord, and you kill

2 birds, and now he gets cord for the shop.
