Won't charge, Won't power on, please help!

Ok, Just bought a iphone 3g from a guy on craigslist. i know, i know, mistake number 1. He told me that the battery just needed to charge so i figured no biggie. After charging it for nearly three hours, nothing. I plugged it into my computer to see if it could be recognized by itunes and still nothing. I also noticed there was a crack in the screen i didn't figure it was a big deal because i know plenty of iphones that work with shattered screens. please help!

Ok. Start simple then get more difficult and costly....

Make sure your charger and cord are undamaged, use wall charger instead of USB port. Try charging overnight and/ or borrow friends charger

1. Inspect and clean dock port of dust/debris ,bent pins.

2. Open phone check connector 4 hasn't come loose. Check water sensors are still white and "don't remove" sticker is intact. If they are fine then you may need a new dock connector or battery. Both are cheap to replace.

If sticker has been removed you may need to check and clean battery contacts and prongs, make sure screw under sticker is in firmly as this makes contact with board to battery. Prongs on battery can become flattened in a drop ( you mention cracked screen) may need lifting up a bit to make better contacts.

3. Inspect board for damage/ blackened components etc.
