Weird noise from disk tray, wont play disc

Hi,

I have the "Opel tray" error on my Xbox. Its about 7years old now and have always worked like a charm. Until now!

I have tried different solutions like disc cleaner, tapping the Xbox while reading the cd and some other things. Nothing works!

It makes 2 "funny?" noises when i put the disc in. Dont know if this is normal though?

Sometimes it starts the cd, and then it works flawless. The Cleaning Cd ALWAYS work, it has a title menu with some other stuffs on it and it will always work! Strange......

I have tried with game discs and movie discs. And sometimes it works and sometimes it dont!

What to do??

Below you can hear the "weird" noise...

Hi!

That's a relatively strange issue, I'm guessing it's either the motor or the laser lens.

We do have this guide that helps you get to the drive itself, but I can't remember if you could remove the top cover of the drive itself to have a better look at the components inside. If you want to dismantle you Xbox using our guide, please do update your post with pics of the disk drive once you get yo it so I can keep on being useful :))

I think this guy on YouTube also has a good point, but he does not show how to disassemble the drive itself.

I'm hearing the scan arm click like it does on a hard drive. Most likely it's time to replace the drive. In my experience an optical drive has a life of about 7-8 years. These drives are pretty cheap now. I'l try to find you a replacement drive and post a link. I can't see the drive number on the repair guide and iFixit is out of the part. If you could give us the make and model number from yours, it would help in locating one.
