Answering Machine reads 88. Is this error message?

Answering machine will not replay the messages. The readout is flashing the numeral 88. We used the handset to remove all but one message. It seems to have the ability to record a message, but to hear it replayed you have to use a handset. Is there a solution to enable the answering machine base to work properly?

Most likely if it is showing 88 it is the front panel that is broken. If the buttons and screen are being strange, the connection might be broken. Don't have this answering machine, nor have I seen this problem before. Hope this helps!

Thank you, Gabriel. The main base is really acting strange. It will not replay a message at all, or it stops after starting to replay. That 88 number appears and it just stops it's function. Guess it's time for a new system. The two phones and the remote base seem to be working properly.

Chosen Solution

I had the code 88 error message, and the calls would drop after a few seconds. I called Panasonic, and they walked me through this process: Hit Menu. Then #. Input 122. Select A. Save. When "set live mode" comes up, hit OFF. It worked.

The other solution was to do a factory reset, but that wipes out anything you've input.

Hope this helps.

@donald3 that is an error message relating to the base. You can try and reset it by unplugging both the phone cord and the power adapter it for a while (10-15min)from any power source and then plug it back in. Check the bottom of the base and see if it has a reset button/hole. If so, insert a small nail or needle to reset it. Some of the Uniden bases have problems with the EEPROM. You could try to clear the EEPROM on the handsets and reset the base. To try to clear it, detach all the batteries and reattach while holding the star and pound. You should hear a beep. Press select and the unit should clear the EEPROM. Now hit end and the unit should say "Welcome...". Next unplug the base unit reattach while holding delete. Next hit delete twice...that should reset the base. Again this may or may not work for your unit. you could also check on here and see if that yields any result.
