Why is my disk malfunctioning and preventing anything from being opened

I was listening to music before and suddenly the track glitched. The pc froze up and I had to force-restart it. Now the disk activity is surging (often up to 100%), I can't run any programs, can't open anything... The taskbar keeps blinking out and losing the icons before repopulating. I can't even open file explorer to save some important work on a USB stick. I'm in another country, so am not on WiFi, and it won't open the available networks anyway. Ive restarted it a number of times. I thought it had a virus protection but now I don't even know. I'm not the most computer savvy. I'm really worried.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Which OS is installed? Any changes made in the past? Do you have issues while booting (freezes/no boot device found)?

Please also try to press F10/F12 after power your system on to check if you have the possibility to run a onboard diagnostic. Here you can test the main parts like HDD and memory.

If the system is still booting up normally please also start the Windows Defender or another AntiVirus-Tool.

It's Windows 10 I think.

There are no issues while booting. But when I'm in, nothing will work. I managed to get to command prompt screen and ran a memory diagnostic scan. Now it's even worse than it was before and I can't even open the start menu. It keeps blinking out and not doing anything. I don't know how to run any other scans. I think it's in safe mode now... Can't get it out. Honestly want to throw it at a wall.

In case of Windows 10 try to reseat your PC.

If it's possible start the whole reset of Windows 10 (with keeping your files).
