Won't turn on, but randomly starts.

I have been using my MacBook Pro 13" Retina for about 3 years.

Last week Friday I tried to start up the system but it refused to. I tried the SMC reset but it didn't start. The only thing I noticed is that if a USB Thumb drive with a LED light on it is connected to the USB port, it momentarily receives power (LED lights up) when the power button is pressed but nothing starts. After above an hour of back and forth, out of the blue, the system chimed and started working like nothing happened.

I used it normally then shut it down. The next day it refused to come up again. Tried everything included disconnecting the battery. It still didn't start. Like the previous day, the MacBook magically started while I was watching TV. Used it again and today (Monday) it has refused to start. I'm thinking of giving it to a friend to take it to the UK (I live in Nigeria) for possible repair.

Please I'm open to suggestions, similar experiences and possible solutions.

I can only do that when the computer starts.

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought it was starting on its own. What is the battery test button telling you? What does the mag-safe light do when you hook it up as far as color changes?

by

It starts but after several attempts and hours of waiting. When I did the SMC reset initially, the MagSafe light turns green from orange and turns back to orange after releasing the buttons. Now even if I try the reset, the color is always red. maybe the battery is full at the moment. I cannot really say.

The mag-safe will be green when the battery is fully charged.

I've heard of stubborn dogs never a stubborn computer like this ;-}

Did you get your system wet at some point? What does the MagSafe charger LED look like Orange or Green when you encounter this problem.

I would say water had sprayed on the keyboard a couple of times but it has been a long time. However, the day before the computer refused to start, I keep it on a damped cloth in my box. Don't think that could have caused the problem though I may be wrong .

Also, the indicator is usually green unless the battery is not 100%. However, at the moment it is green so I guess it is fully charged.
