Replace 2.53 logicboard with 2.66

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Unibody 2.53 GHz Mid 2009.

Would it be possible to replace the logic board with a MacBook Pro 15" Unibody 2.66 GHz Mid 2009 logic board?

I know the 2.66 has 2 fans and a different heatsink, but I have a 2.66 MBP with broken screen and a 2.53 MBP with broken logic board. So I have all the parts.

I don't know weather the screw layout is the same or not. Would the 2.66 logic board fysically fit in a 2.53 MBP?

I really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately, the 2.53GHz version is the only one that will not work.

Thank you for the super fast response. Does anyone know why it won't work? (board dimensions, screw hole positions, etc)

May have to do with the cooling system, as you already mentioned. Could also be that some daughterboards aren't compatible.

You should listen to me, as I won't just guess!

The short answer, as in many things, is that it depends.

Unibody logicboards are generally interchangeable, but the casing's the problem. You obviously can't use a SD slot logicboard on an express card slot, and vice versa.

Apart from that, most all fittings are the same, and that includes the screw-holes.

Both 2.66 and 2.53 logicboards are available in either SD or express-card flavours, so you must buy accordingly.

I have a 2.66 logicboard that I am fitting to a 2.53 body but they both have SD card provision - no problem.

Just be sure to be earthed, when you go inside! The ifixit guides are excellent. Follow every step and read it out loud - assume nothing, especially during re-assembly.

Regards,

I left you a negative on this but will be happy to remove it if and when you succeed. Please take photos.
