Message on my screen says "write protect."

I have an Olympus SP-720 UZ camera. When I turn it on, I get a message on my screen that reads "write protect". Can someone give me an idea what is going on. It goes away when I take the SD card out, but there isn't enough memory in my camera to take pictures without it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@jluther ""write protect" refers to SD card. There is a Lock switch on the left side of the SD card. Make sure the Lock switch is slid up (unlock position).

If the switch is unlocked and it still reads it as protected you want to try a new SD card. Should that read as protected as well, you will have an issues with the SD card reader. You'll have to open your camera and check the little "finger" that checks the write protect on the card. Post pictures of your card reader once you have it disassembled. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that so we can assist you further.
