VHS Tape won't go in all the way

I just picked up a Toshiba M-445 VHS Player, I hooked it up and turned it on. The VHS tape doesn't go in all the way feels like something is blocking it from going in. it doesn't even drop down. I hear a buzzing sound when I try to put the tape in like it wants to load. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem?

If you just picked up a VCR that doesn't work, set it back down and slowly back away from it before repair costs jump out of it and bite you.

I know that I'm late to the party here, but for future reference...

Another possibility is that the loading carriage is out of alignment with the unit as a whole. If the loading cage was installed incorrectly (not aligned with the gears properly), the behavior you are describing can happen. Without seeing the actual machine, it is difficult to be sure, but there are a number of other possibilities as well. It could be as simple as a belt that is slipping once it gets some resistance.

That seems to be a sign of gears seizing up...the vcr protects itself when this happens so it spits out the tape before any damage occurs on the gears. Try lubricating the transport gears to the right of the cassette cradle and the gears near the loading motor.
