I repaired my dock connector on my iPhone 4S but it won't charge

Hello. I recently purchased and replaced a dock connector for my iPhone 4S that had a broken power button and dock connector. However, when plugging the phone in, I get nothing on the screen (when using my wall charger, portable charger or back of PC) and nothing in iTunes - on the PC I do not hear a device connection sound. When using the front USB ports I get a "Device Descriptor request failed" but I do hear the device connect sound. What could be the issue?

Small edit: the phone hadn't been switched on for around two years because the dock connector had broken

And if this does not help then the replacement charging port is faulty and needs to be replaced with another one. I think the battery is FINE.
