Why my device works on power, but dead when disconnect from power

my ipod classic 160 GB 7th generation works perfectly when connected to power and charges the battery as well, but off the power it's dead. does not show up on the computer either

The battery can not hold the charge any more get a new battery pack and replace if it's too old.

Sorry, the battery does not seem to be the problem, because when device is connected to power, it charges (it's fully charged now)

And after it's fully charged. How long does it run on the battery?
