Can Off Market Dashcam drain out Car battery?

Hi

I have installed a DOD Dashcam (LS460W) in my 2010 Ford Escape via Cigarette lighter socket .

The device works on 5V 1Amps

I realized that the socket keeps providing power to the unit even when the engine is off, forcing me to disconnect the Dashcam from the power socket after every trip.

Now the question is this,

1) What is the risk of my battery getting drained if I forget to disconnect the device after every trip ?

2) Approx how much time can I keep the device connected before it drains out my car battery to a dangerous level ?

Thanks in advance

If your camera draws 1A, this means that every hour it is on (with the engine shut off) it consumes 1AH (Ampere hour) from your battery. If your battery is e.g. 50AH and healthy, in 50 hours the camera will eat all its charge. However, the battery will loose its ability to start the motor much earlier, because the starter draws a very large current and a half-full battery will not be able to supply it. My advise: have an automobile electrician change the wiring, so that the lighter socket is switched off when the engine switch is switched off.
