Black screen not working after replacing SSD

I have just replace the internal drive with a SSD drive, on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. I have put it all back together as described in the ifixit guide. The computer starts up with no chime. but the screen is black.

Once the iMac has started I can access this macs log-in screen via Apple Remote Desktop, but the fan is fairly noisy.

I have removed the screen again and checked the 2 connections and all seems fit correctly. The screen shows no signs of a fault. The system also works when I use another screen via target screen mode [cmd F2] on another iMac connected via a thunderbolt cable.

So I'm not sure what else I can do. This is the second iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), I have swapped the hard drive on, this previous one went without a hitch.

Any ideas on what I can do? or what to check?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Just so we get things straight here.

Your statement on using target screen mode is a bit confusing. Are you using the good systems screen so you can see the bad systems desktop or are you using the the bad systems screen seeing the good systems desktop?

Did you use the IFIXIT Pizza Roller tool?

Hi Dan

Basically I've upgraded the hard drive to a new SSD and I was follow the ifixit guide using the pizza roller tool and removed the screen with no issues (Last week I had already done the same upgrade to another iMac of the same spec with no issues).

After putting everything back together. I powered it up and I could here the fan was going, but the screen was just black. I could see the computer over the network using Apple Remote Desktop as I could see the iMac had the log-in screen.

I also saw another article on iFixit which suggested connecting and external monitor to see if this could work. I used another iMac to test if there might be a graphics card issue and used cmd F2 to switch the working iMac to target screen mode and again this worked and the could access the iMac with the no-working screen.

I have since taken the screen off again with pizza roller tool and re sighted the 2 connections and still no working screen.

I hope this explains my issue a bit clearer.

Thanks Neil

Sorry Neil for not responding sooner

Did you tear or kink the ribbon cable? Do you have a replacement display to check things?

If that didn't solve it I think it was just just bad luck the backlight logic died on you.. Not much you can do other than replace the logic board or if you know someone who has the sills and tools to fix your logic board.
