Late 2013 & Early 2015 SSD Compatibility

Dear Experts!

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2013 with 512SSD. Recently, I have got a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015 with 256SSD.

I want to upgrade the "256SSD" of my new Early 2015 with the previous 512SSD i have from Late 2013 ".

Here's the SSD i have, Early 2013 512SSD, SSD Model: MZ-JPU512T/0A6

I saw the SSDs have similar pins, also i googled about it then some pages said they are compatible, and some said they are not due to some PCIx2.0 or PCIx3.0 version. I could have just tested them, but i don't want to damage anything. So i need an expert opinion before i do so.

Can i do this upgrade ?? I would appreciate any help on this.

Thank you in advance.

Chosen Solution

These systems are both PCIe 2.0:

  • Late 2013 - PCIe 2.0 x2 interface (2 lane) aprox. 673.5 MB/s and read speeds of 731 MB/s
  • Early 2015 - PCIe 2.0 x4 interface (4 lane) aprox. 643.6 MB/s and read speeds of 1.3 GB/s

While you can use the older SSD in your new system you'll loose the performance you have with the newer SSD.
