Power button and some of keyboard doesn't work

I have a 2013 MacBook Air and all of a sudden about 6 months ago, after it ran out of battery I couldn't turn it back on.

I took it to my local computer store who replaced the keyboard, but still same problem. So took it back, and they advised I'd need to replace the mother board or something? And that this would cost almost the same as a new computer.

I'm about to go travel the world and cannot afford this kind of money. So does anyone know if this can be fixed by me following instructions somewhere?

I'm aware that I can take the back off and unplug it internally to reset it and turn it back on that way, but given I'll be backpacking etc (and not confident doing this), I'm not sure that's a good idea.

Would appreciate any help! Thanks

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did you originally spill something into the keyboard?

Sounds like you either spilled something into the keyboard (again?) and/or the repair outfit didn't replace the keyboard.

If the system is able to boot up I find it hard to believe the logic board is at fault here. Its possible the keyboard ribbon cable is damaged or the job was just not done very well to start with.

Most of the time keyboard failures occur when the battery swells pressing on the uppercase just above the trackpad if you are sure you didn't spill anything in. You could try to loosen the battery to see if releasing the pressure solves your problem. If it does then you need a new battery and most likely didn't need a new keyboard.

If you take the battery fully out you should see some signs if they in fact replaced the keyboard as the insulator sheet which is glued will likely be wrinkled and a few scratch marks along its edge. Here's how to take the battery out: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Battery Replacement.

Once you get the battery out you'll be able to access the keyboard ribbon cable connection on the Trackpad. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Trackpad Replacement. Jump to Step 7 to see it.

Thanks for your response. No I never spilt anything on it. I actually don't use it that much. Was always kept in my room in a case. That's the strange thing. I wasn't convinced that it could possibly need a whole board replaced when it works perfectly, apart from the keyboard. They told me they did replace the keyboard, but nothing changed. That was at a local computer store, so not sure if it's worth getting opinion from Apple?

The model is A1466 it says if this helps :)
