"error 29" after battery replacement

Hi

I have an iPhone 3gs with original battery number APN 616-0433. I have replaced the battery with APN 616-0435 battery, but when I try to restore it I get "error 29".

Is there any other solution then somehow organising a battery APN 616-0433 or downgrading it to fm 3.1.3.?

I have a 3GS that had APN 616-0431 for the battery; didn't know the APN when I ordered new battery from Amazon. What I got was APN 616-0435.

When I installed the new battery, I ran into the issues of restarting, and weird charging too. Eventually this settled down, and the iPhone seemed to work okay.

Then, when the update for ios 6.01 came out, I naively went ahead and installed it. That's when the real fun began!

The phone went into recovery mode, and would not come out of it. When I tried to restore with iTunes, I got the dreaded "Error 29" (as well as a few others on different occasions) on my MacBooks, as well as on a windoze laptop.

I tried the various hacks to get out of Recovery Mode, but the phone would always go back into Recovery Mode.

I even went to an Apple store, where the purported 'genius' had the same issue I did, and then tried to sell me a new phone. (He never questioned me about hardware changes to the phone. Nor did he suggest a new battery, even though I saw that come up on his iPad as an option along with the replacement iPhone!)

I finally came to my senses and ordered the proper battery (616-0431) from iFixit. New battery came 2 days later, and bingo, I was able to restore the iPhone without problems, and I'm back in business!

Gotta love iFixit!

I guess it is one of those nasty errors that hits people after they replaced their batteries or changed to iOS.4.0 http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/07/ireco... says that they have the fixit for that. they also have it for mac and winxp so this should help regardless of what OS you are using.Check it out and let us know if it works for you.
