In many cases, the charging port is fine but has become clogged with debris. If your charging cable seems loose or falls out, try using a sharpened toothpick to gently clean gunk out of the charging port. You’ll probably be amazed at what comes out. After cleaning the port on my Galaxy S7, the charger worked like new again. Don’t use any moisture.

With nothing to lose I tried this and couldn't believe how well it worked. After a year of frustration with my charging port your toothpick suggestion worked wonders. Thanks!

I was asleep, phone was charging (Galaxy S7 Edge) I knocked my pillow off the bed and it knocked over a full pint of water that went all over my charging phone. I cleared up but left my phone charging. Was woken later by a strange alarm noise from my phone & a burning smell!

My charging port was fried! I tried using a fast usb charger and it got fried, totally ruining the cable. My only option for charging now is a wireless Qi type charger where you just lay the phone on the unit and it charges as if by magic! The downside of this is charging in the car & how do I trasfer photos, music etc to and from my laptop without using a usb cable?

I did just try cleaning out the port and saw the little bit of metal in the middle that goes into the slot in the small end of the usb plug was off centre and squashed up towards the top of the port. I gently bent this back down and tried yet another usb cable and hey presto, it started charging, no burning smell either so hopefully problem is now solved for me!!

Like Jim's experience, I also was amazed and pleased to see how well this simple technique worked. Thank you Dennis.

The hard way to fix this is to open up the phone and change the charge port.

The easy way to fix is to purchase a Qi Wireless charger. No more cables.
