First, put the install DVD in (whether it be the original DVD that came with your system or 10.6), then boot up from it by holding down C. Follow the prompts and when you can, click utilities on the top then click Disk Utility. Click the newly installed HDD and go to "Partition", under Volume Scheme, make it one volume and under options, make sure it is set to GUID. After thats formatted, continue to install OS X and follow the prompts.
