should I get my iPod repaired?

I really need your advice.

I have a 30gb iPod Classic that is a little over 3 years old. I've never had a problem with it until a couple of weeks ago, when I dropped it on the ground and the screen cracked (the iPod still worked after I dropped it, but the screen was hard to read). The iPod's outer case is still fine, but the screen inside needed to be replaced.

So I purchased a new screen for the iPod and I tried to replace the screen last Saturday. While I was trying to disassemble the iPod, I had a problem getting the ribbon connector for the old screen to disconnect from the connector on the circuit board. There is a latch that clamps the ribbon in place on the circuit board, and while trying to get the latch to open, the latch broke into pieces. By the time I got the ribbon connector to detach from the circuit board, I ruined the connector on the circuit board (some of the pins are bent). I put everything back together as best I could, but now the iPod won't work at all (the screen won't light, and the iPod doesn't play).

So I don't know what to do. I saw online that a replacement circuit board for this iPod costs about $100. I don't know whether your company can actually "repair" this connector (i.e. solder a new connector onto the board), or if I would need to replace the whole board. I assume that if I need to replace the circuit board, it's going to cost about as much as if I just call it quits and buy a new model (or a used one).

What is your opinion about this? Do you think it is worth repairing this unit?

Bill Willis, I am not affiliated wit ifixit but just a member of this great community of people that like to help other people with their questions. Now when you say iPod classic and 30GB we must be talking 5th generation iPod Video.In your case my personal opinion would be that I would ask myself this question. What is it going to cost? You can get replacement logic boards online for around $40 (check ebay if you are having trouble finding it let me know and I give you an adress where I get mine for that price). So now you invested about $10-15 for the display and another lets say 45 for the logic board. Puts you $55 bucks in the hole. I takes about an hour to replace the board and is pretty straight forward. iPod Classic Logic Board Replacement But I doubt that you would get something new for the price. So, I would fix it:) but of course this is just my opinion. BTW we have all broken those darn clips, happens all the time.
