Repair advice for intermittently fading display

Hi,

I've recently run into an issue with my MBP. During use the display suddenly began to show both vertical and horizontal black lines while fading to black before returning to normal. This repeats every 5-10 second: fading then returning.

I first tested the laptop with an external monitor and everything is working perfectly. Upon further inspection I THINK I have narrowed down the cause to the display cable. I re-seated the cable a few times with definite improvement but no total fix. No matter what I do the issue won't totally go, only occur less frequently (15-20 second gap).

What I would like to know is:

1: Am I correct in thinking the cable is at fault?

2: How can I rule out a fault in the socket for the display cable on the logic board?

I don't want to buy a new display only to have the same issue.

Thanks,

Euan

Well euan this issue could be the socket or a backlight . my guess is that it is the socket so try solding and resoldering the socket and see if that helps.

And clean the socket.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have very limited experience soldering such small delicate components, neither do I have the equipment. I'll seek out a local repair guy and inquire further.
