How do I get inside this thing to replace the earphone jack?

The earphone jack appears to be defective. Plugged in all the way, only the right earbud plays. Plugging it in while playing a song causes the song to pause. Is this normal?

I'm not getting a lot of response here. I'm experienced in electronics repair but know nothing of ipods. This young man brought me this thing to fix. I need help. Do I need a heat gun to open this thing? Are the tools and parts to repair it available here?

We don't sell the headphone jack by itself, because it's soldered to the logic board. We do have an iPod Touch 2nd Generation repair manual, though, which has step-by-step guides to show you how to "get inside [that] thing". My suggestion to you would be to look on Ebay or do a Google search for the headphone jack, and then follow our logic board guide to access the headphone jack.

I would try a different set of headphobes/earbuds before blaming the jack. As for plugging them in and the music pauses, I believe it's normal as it will usually pause when you unplug them.

It has to be the jack. Both speakers work in the docking station, and I tried several different headphones with the same result.

What tools do I need to get to the jack? I'm guessing I'll need a low wattage soldering iron to replace it, but how do I open this thing?

Where do I buy a replacement jack?

Can I get the jack and the tools I need at this web site?
