Why my chromecast overheating and reboot?

My chromecast 2015 start to reboot when it became too hot (it's berely untouchable). When I put a fan direct to the chromecast the problem doesn't show and the chromecast itself was a lot more cooler. There is a definitive solution for this overheating problem?

Answer this question I have this problem too

When mine over heats i add a ice pack with a towel so that moister won't affect it. Hope it helps and then im able o run it for a longer period of time. still plan on moding this like adding a larger heat sink and a new case for it.

I would try contacting google first for your options, if nothing hits your fancy there, either buy a new chromecast or open it up and re-paste, note that if it has been on contact with liquid, even near steam, water will have ingressed inside and that's the cause of the overheating. something shorting (even a little) inside on that board will cause havoc and overheating.

I have my Chromecast hooked up in my van & I already installed a heatsink & it still gets hot shuts off, not as much with a fan on it. now my refrigerator is about two ft below my TV so I'm going to try this. Getting an extension cable for my hdmi (about 3ft.) Plugging it in between the TV & the Chromecast & setting the Chromecast inside my refrigerator to cool it down. I will post the results. Oh I will also put it in a plastic bag to keep any moisture out.

Hello! My suggestion would either be to place the Chromecast in an open air environment where air can freely circulate on its own, or buy a purpose built Chromecast heatsink like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Stream-Cooler-Rou...

My chromecast kept dropping out sporadically after about 30-60 mins. I tried: moving nearer (2m) to the router, getting a new router, getting fast full fibre, getting a new chrome cast, but nothing made it reliable until now.

I noticed the chromecast (2nd gen) was almost too hot to touch, so using my thermal camera I moved it away from the warm cooling vents at the back of the TV using the side HDMI port and used a short (100mm) HDMI extension cable to get even further way, and supported it with the power cord.

Furthermore, I sandwiched the chromecast between two (scrap) finned and fanned heat sinks using rubber bands (I didn't use thermal past as it can be a bit messy and didn't need to power the fans now, though I might connect them up in summer.)

This got the chromecast temperature to 35C and it performs well.

First Image shows thermal image of back of TV after being on for 1hr , with the the chromecast hanging off the image's right hand side. Second normal image shows the chromecast sandwiched between two scrap heat sinks.
