Why does my mouse stop working randomly or when I unplug and plug back

I have an HP Z840 Workstation running windows 7. Randomly my mouse will stop working and it usually takes around 10-15 minutes before it starts working again. If it never comes back a reboot will usually fix it. If i unplug it and plug it back in, same issue, doesn't work for a bit or i have to reboot.

If i run the machine in safe mode, i have no issues, i can unplug and plug all day. All newly created users experience the same mouse issues.

I've tried turning off the USB power management, through both the Device manager and power options. I've uninstalled the drivers, re installed, and read hours of forums. No new software has been added and this machine is always offline, so no updates automatically run.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do next? I'm leaning towards a new OS...

Thanks!

It sounds like there is either some driver or software or your mouse is bad.

First, Try a new mouse, if the problem stops, then your mouse it bad.

But since you said it only occurs in normal mode, not safe mode, it sounds like your OS is bad.

I would backup any important information and just do "Windows Restore" to restore your computer to its factory settings. First, if you are going to the restore after you backed up your important files, you can try the "Keep all Documents" option before doing a complete reset. If the "Keep Documents" doesn't work, the go ahead with the wipe everything option.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

I have the same problem now, actually for a week. I searched for a solution and that is how I got here.

To do a full restore is quite drastic, anyone would know how time consuming it is to get everything back working. I had hoped for a less dramatic solution, I will keep on searching before doing a restore. Thank you.
