battery drain, installed a new battery , still drain

Hey everyone,

i have a iphone 5S, the latest time the phone was running low on battery on a few hours after completely recharging the phone.

So i ordered a new battery and installed the battery. Now the new battery is also draining fast ( i mean from completely charged tot 0% just a hour or 3 ...)

What could it be ? failing motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Kevin

Ok i'm pretty sure that the lightning port module is causing the drain for a big part.

after deconnect it , the drain was pretty normal. ( stay disconnected untill 27 procent.) than re connected and after 45 minutes the battery was completely empty.

i will replace the lightning module.

thanks for the help Minho

Several things can cause Battery Drain issues. You will need to isolate some variables in order to get a better understanding of what is wrong. The problem could be a bad replacement battery, excessive current draw from on of the modular components (camera, button, screen) or it could be a problem on the logic board itself.

Here are some things to try:

  • It could be a bad replacement battery; there are lots of cheap batteries on the market.
    1. Try replacing with a known-good battery or order a good one from here.
  • You could have excessive current draw from one of the modular components; for example, the backlight, a camera or a sensor. You may notice a hot spot on the phone or screen.
    1. Fully charge the battery first.
    2. Disconnect the battery, then disconnect the flexes for the screen assembly, buttons and cameras, leaving only the Lightning Dock connected to the logic board (follow this guide). When you are done, re-connect the battery.
    3. Go back after an hour or more and test the condition of the battery. You will need to download either coconutBattery (Mac) or 3uTools (Windows) to see the battery condition.
  • It could also be the Lightning port so you could try the same test as above but with the Lightning port disconnected once the battery is charged (connect it back to test the condition of the battery).
  • You may have a damaged logic board. This will require a micro-soldering repair and is not DIY. Drops, bends, water damage or using poor quality charging bricks and cables, can cause this.

Hello again

i followed the steps ...

battery is draining less then before but stil...

i shut down the bluetooth ( and its helping) could it be that the wifi and bluetooth module is causing the drain?

battery is good ... also checked it with 3u tools .. battery is good.

measured 4.2 VDC on battery.

after an hour ( after charging the phone for 100 procent.) i went back tot he phone and the phone already lost 2 precent. Than i shutted down the bluetooth . after 1 hour i have 90 procent left.

( without use...)

can i measure some parts out .. or what can i do as next step ?

i disconnected the lighntning module now.. so we will see how that test goes...

thanks in advance and i post the result here.

We are now 10 hours further and the battery is now on 83 precent after 13 hours .

I think thats pretty ok? still it is a new battery so i tought it would be better.

My conclusion so far : replacing the lighting module , and maybe the wifi/ bluetooth module.

what is your conclusion?

thanks

It's also good practice to do a restore of the iPhone to remove software related issues causing rapid drain. You would be surprised that this has actually helped out a lot in most cases if the battery health seems fine (65%+~) via 3UTools battery health check.

My SE is showing the same behavior. I've swapped out the entire lower assembly (including lightning port) and changed battery twice. Still massive drains. I'll disconnect the lightning port tonight after a full charge. Hard reset, soft reset and firmware restore to no avail
