Olympus E-PL6 has black screen

Water damage

Fell in a marsh, camera got wet.

Current operation

  • Camera turns on.
  • Screen is black.
  • Shutter releases
  • When camera is connected to the computer, the blue light comes on but device does not show up on desktop
  • It does take pictures, I just can't preview them. When I insert the memory card into a reader, there are images on it.

Troubleshooting

  • covered optic sensor
  • placed in ziploc with rice to dry for one week
  • replaced battery and memory card
  • turned on camera - black screen
  • switched battery and card with others
  • updated software

worst case is some bits of the mainboard is broken

i'd look at the connections inside of it and attempt to clean the pins, who knows there might be some water leftovers inside blocking certain pins , best of luck

i haven't opened my camera in the past - any suggestions on how to best do this?

look up some teardown video, mind you to remember or atleast keep track of which screw goes where and be careful when opening it up, there are lots of fragile cables, and dont touch the flash unless you like electric shocks

but i think the motherboard is hit, if checking and drying the insides doesnt work, a repair shop is your best bet
