Internal Speakers not appearing. No startup chime when booting up.

Like the title says, there is absolutely no sound coming from my MacBook.

I've tried the various solutions listed on the internet; using a tooth, pick, resetting SMC and the PRAM - but to no avail.

What do I do?

Can you give us some history of your Mac? Water damage, dropped, this came out of the blue?

There's been no water damage or dropping. This came out of nowhere.

Last time I had this same exact issue, it was due to a bad sound controller on the logic board.

Depending on the model you have, this chip or the sound circuit in general could be on the main board (you need a board level repair tech to trouble shoot it and fix it) or on a smaller side board called also "in/out board" which is replaceable at an acceptable cost.

So start by reading us the model number on the bottom case to determine the model.

I'll give you some details when I come home.

Also what would you say the cost is to fix this issue?

Depending on the model.

If small in/out board failed, it is not expensive to replace.

If the sound controller (sound IC or may be something else on the sound circuit) failed on the big main mother board, the cost can be more.

check for audio from headphone jack. This will help you determine if it a board issue (no audio) or something else (audio). If you have audio from the headphone jack possible culprits are listed below:

1. Airplay/bluetooth - make sure the audio isn't stuck with audio out to airplay

2. Physical speaker (internal) is bad - replace speaker to restore sound
