battery drained , I recharge it by PS but it doesn't last long

Hello

so i got an iphone that is not turning on , i checked for the battery voltage with a multi-meter and it was 2.6 , tried to turn the iphone on with power supply and it works fine , so the problem was in the battery

so i plug the power supply of 12 volt to the battery to recharge the battery , i was able to raise the battery voltage to 3.7

i tried to turn on the iphone with the recharged battery , it works but the phone lose power quickly , in one hour the phone will turn off

tried to charge it fully many times for a week , but still the same problem

i know changing the battery is the solution , but can you please explain to me why its not working when i charged the battery and rais the voltage to 3.7 ?

You probably killed the battery either by powering it with 12v WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER DO, or the 2.6 volt was a sign that your battery is done.

Here is the replacement part. Its only 15 bucks and its a good quality part.

but why not ? i took a course in my country about mobile maintenance and the presenter said its a property for the mobile batteries , and it did raise the battery voltage , so it made sense to me , can you explain to me whats wrong in my logic ?

Its just that lithium batteries can be very temperamental and can explode if treated wrong. I suggest 4.2 volts, which is the max voltage for the battery. It will take longer but will avoid damage. And this fast drain could be a result of your work.

12V on a 4.7V battery haha it's like putting 12V into the CPU and killing it. No different than that.

Well said @cam2363 , you should never "charge" a Li-ion battery with 12V. They can be charged if you have a constant voltage / constant current power supply but I would not leave it unattended (unless you have a fancy programmable one).

Here is a link on how to charge Li-ion...
